INDIA FIRST WIN FOR OLYMPIC GAMES GOLD MEDAL --- ABHINAV BINDRA WINS OLYMPIC GOLD---

CREATING HISTORY: Abhinav Bindra is the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics.

Beijing Abhinav Bindra won India's first-ever individual Olympic gold medal when he claimed the men's 10m Air Rifle shooting title here on Monday.
Athens Games champion Zhu Qinan of China won the silver and Henri Hakkinen of Finland took the bronze at the Beijing Shooting Hall on the outskirts of the Chinese capital.
Bindra, the 25-year-old businessman from the northern city of Chandigarh, followed his world championship title two years ago to finally win a landmark gold medal for his country.
In one of the most thrilling shooting finals in Olympic history, Bindra overcame a two-point deficit against Hakkinen and one point against Zhu after the qualification rounds to annexe the title.
The Indian trumped his rivals with the best finish of 104.5 in the 10-shot final as he went into the last shot level with Hakkinen on 689.7 points.

While Bindra secured his best score of 10.8 in the deciding shot, Hakkinen managed only 9.7 to concede the silver to Zhu, whose last shot was 10.5.
Bindra finished with a combined tally of 700.5, a fair distance behind Zhu's Olympic record of 702.7 set in Athens.
Zhu came in with 699.7 this time and Hakkinen, a member of Finland's armed forces who is taking part in his first Olympics, scored 699.4 points.
India, winners of eight field hockey gold medals, had never won an individual Olympic title before Bindra's feat.
The previous best was trap shooter Rajyavardhan Rathore's silver at Athens, while there were bronze medals for wrestler Khasaba Jadhav (1952), tennis star Leander Paes (1996) and woman weightlifter Karnam Malleswari (2000).

International Friendship Day

International Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in US in 1935(no references). Gradually the festival gained popularity and today Friendship Day is celebrated in large number of countries including India. On this day people spend time with their friends and express love for them. Exchange of Friendship Day Gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition of this occasion.

Friendship Day History

There is not much literature on Friendship Day history as we celebrate today. However, there are numerous folktales and several instance in mythological legends that shows that friends and friendship have been valued since the beginning of civilized world. As an intrinsically social creature, men love to make friends to further this process of socialization.

History of Friendship Day in US

Considering the valuable role friends play in our life it was deemed to fit to have a day dedicated to friends and friendship. The United States Congress, in 1935, proclaimed first Sunday of August as the National Friendship Day. Since then, celebration of National Friendship Day became an annual event. The noble idea of honoring the beautiful relationship of friendship caught on with the people and soon Friendship Day became a hugely popular festival.

Following the popularity and success of Friendship Day in US, several other countries adopted the tradition of dedicating a day to friends. Today, Friendship Day is enthusiastically celebrated by several countries across the world including India.

In 1997, the United Nations named Winnie - the Pooh as the world's Ambassador of Friendship

Importance of Friendship in Bible

The Bible, the primary text of the western civilization, reflects upon friendship as the bond that forms the foundation to human faith, trust and companionship. Following verses from the bible aptly portray the importance of friends:

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

“Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13-15

Besides, there are several tales from the Old Testament and the New Testament about the value of friendship and how true friendship is a treasure to unearth. A noticeable point is that, both the versions make a difference between the two broad meanings of friendship- one is a mere acquaintance, the other is a more affectionate relation.

In the Old Testament, Abraham is called the “friend of God” because of the intimacy of his relations. God speaks to Moses face to face “as a man…unto his friend” (Ex 33:11). The romantic friendship of Ruth and Naomi, the devotion of the subordinate Hushai for David, or the mutual relation between David and Jonathan - the Old Testament is replete with these interesting tales of friends and friendship.

In the New Testament, the relationship between Jesus and his disciples clearly depicts how human friendship can constantly grow. From being teacher and disciple, to lord and servant their relationship finally grew to an unparalleled friendship.

Importance of Friendship in Thirukural

"The following works of art and literature are among the most remarkable contributions of the Tamil creative genius to the world's cultural treasure and should be familiar to the whole world and admired and beloved by all in the same way as the poems of Homer, the dramas of Shakespeare, the pictures of Rembrandt, the cathedrals of France and the sculptures of Greece..... the Thirukural, one of the great books of the world, one of those singular emanations of the human heart and spirit which preach positive love and forgiveness and peace....."

Verse 781 What is as difficult to secure as friendship? And what greater security is there against foes?

Verse 782 Among wise men, freindship waxes like the crescent moon; Among fools it wanes as surely as the full moon must.

Verse 783 The bonds that good men share, like good bound books, Reveal new enjoyments at each new encounter.

Verse 784 The object of friendship is not merrymaking But a stern rebuking when friends go astray.

Verse 785 It is not constant meeting and companionship But mutual sensibilities that confer the alliance of friendship.

Verse 786 Friendship is not seen on a friendly face, But felt deep within a friendly heart.

Verse 787 To divert a man from wrong, direct him toward the right And share his sorrow in misfortune is friendship.

Verse 788 As swiftly as the hand moves to seize a slipping garment, Friendship acts to assuage a friend's distress.

Verse 789 Where does Friendship hold her court? It is where friends May find constant support in every possible circumstance.

Verse 790 To boast, "He means so much to me and I to him," Merely belittles a friendship.

Friendship isn't always easily described. The Eskimos, they say, have a hundred different words for snow. Unfortunately, the English language isn't quite as innovative, though it has vast opportunities to differentiate meaning. Certainly, Love is one of those opportunities. And so, too, is Friendship.

Instead of different words, however, we're stuck with simple adjectives. Close friend. Best friend. Childhood friend. Intimate friend. Trusted friend. Beloved friend. But whether you use adjectives or different words, few could deny the nearly infinite meaning in such a simple word.

Friends are special people. We can't pick our family, and we're sorely limited in the number of them at any rate. Society and mores (and often our own conscience) dictate we select a single mate. But our friends can be as diverse and infinite as the adjectives we choose. Our friends, in a very real sense, reflect the choices we make in life.

This method can also bring you the next Bill Gates. Talent is more valuable than qualification. But from point of view education and self talent is the best investment.

When you first look at this, how many colours do you see? Some might say they see 3 or even 4 colours, but there are 2 - red and green! People usually think they see 2 shades of red, but there is only 1. Look closely and you will notice on one side that white boxes surround the red boxes, and on the other side, green boxes do! Due to the placement of these boxes you get the "illusion" of different colours. Since white is not considered to be a colour (it is the presence of all colours in scientific terms) we can safely say that there are 2 colours present here! Still don't understand?

The Seven C’s of Success

Get ready to sail the Seven C’s - the Seven C’s of Success that is.

Learn to navigate your ship of destiny in these seven “C’s” if you

want to be a total success. Here they are, in alphabetical order:

1. Caring - I believe that to be a true success in this world we

must have a bigger vision than simply accomplishing a goal for

ourselves or simply lining our own pockets. I believe that

successful people have a deep caring for others. Yes, they are

aggressive, but they are not aggressive to the point that

they run roughshod over others.

Question: What is your caring factor? Have you placed people in

their proper place, as people worthy of dignity, respect, and

proper treatment? Or have you begun to treat others as a means to

an end for yourself?

2. Character - Becoming a success is more than increasing the

digits in your bank account. In fact, I believe ANYONE can increase

his or her bank account with a simple plan. Financial development

is the easy part. Character development is the hard part, letting

each and every experience shape and mold us as we experience them,

always moving toward our goal and never allowing negative

circumstances to destroy us but make us better people. This is what

true success is about!

Question: How is your character? Are you becoming a better person

with each passing experience? Are you becoming a rock of wisdom and

experience, deepening your foundation of character?

3. Choice - Eisenhower reminded us that our histories are written

by choice, not by chance. Every movement you make toward your

ultimate success and destiny will be because you choose to move

toward it. The actions that you choose, each and every day will add

up, over the long-term, to your final destination. The power we

have as humans to choose is one of the greatest gifts known

to mankind.

Question: Do you choose success with each and every choice you

make? Each choice you make either moves you toward your goal or

away from it. Which do you choose?

4. Concentration - Often those who fail do so because they lose

their concentration. Something else comes along and becomes their

newfound fancy. They move from whim to whim, tossed to and fro by

the strong blowing winds. The successful person however, stands

firm, with their eyes transfixed on the goal. One of my favorite

posters as a boy was of George Brett of the Kansas City Royals

Baseball Team. The picture was taken just as the bat was hitting

the ball. Where were George’s eyes? Straight down the barrel of the

bat, looking at the point where the ball and bat came together. Now

that is concentration!

Question: How is your concentration? Do you stick to your goal and

focus firmly on it, or do you let your mind and heart wander from

whim to whim

5. Confidence - Success comes to those who have the confidence to

try, and more than that, the confidence to win. Confidence is

something that you can grow in your mind and heart. Each passing

victory that you achieve builds more and more confidence in you to

draw from the next time you go to fight another battle on your

journey to success. Do what you can to build confidence inside of

yourself so you will be able to dip deeply into that well when you

need it!

Question: How is your confidence? Do you believe that you can

achieve what you conceive? Are you winning victories that you can

then draw on later?

6. Consistency - People who become a success realise that to a

great degree, success is a formula. At the very least it is sticking

to doing the right things for a long enough period of time for them

to create their destiny. This is consistency. They consistently do

the things that will bring them their success. Tiger Woods hits

hundreds of practice balls each and every day. He doesn’t do 100

one day, then two days off, then 500 balls, then a day off, then 300

balls, then three days off. No, he knows the power of consistency

and has achieved a level of success that that consistency

formulated for him.

Question: How is your consistency? Are you consistent? Are you

doing the things you need to do each and every day that will bring

your goal to you?

7. Courage - Successful people are brave people. They know that

even success has its challenges, yet they face them head on and

move forward anyway. No mountain is too high, nor river too wide,

nor foe too large for the person who will choose to live out their

dreams! They are courageous people who continue on even when others

have quit. And for that they receive their reward!

Question: How about you? Are you courageous? Are you willing to

face the obstacles and move forward in spite of the fear that may

try to well up within you? Be courageous and you will succeed!

THE ROPE

The story tells about a Mountain Climber,who wanted to climb the highest mountain……

He began his expediture after many years of preprations…………but since he wanted the glory just for himself, he decided to climb the mountain alone.

The night felt heavy in the heights of mountain,and the man could not see anything.

All was black, zero visibilty, and the moon and the stars were covered by the clouds.
As he was climbing, only a few feet away from the top of the mountain, He slipped and fell into the air,falling at a great speed.

The climber could see black spots as he went down, and the terrible sensation of being sucked by gravity.

He kept falling…………and in those moments of great fear , it came to his mind all the good and bad episodes of his life.

He was thinking now about how close death was geting, when all of a sudden he felt that the rope tied to his waist pull him very hard…………

His body was now hanging in the air .

Only the rope was holding him…………..now at his moment of stillness he screamed — “Help Me God”

All of a sudden a deep voice coming from the sky answered:-

“What do yo want me to do?”

“Save me God….”

“Do you really think i can save you?”

“Offcourse i believe you can……..”

“THEN CUT THE ROPE TIED TO YOUR WAIST”

There was a moment of silence but the man deceided to hold on the rope with all his strength.

The rescue team tells………that the nxt day a climber was found dead and found his body hanging…..from a rope……… his hands holding to it………

only five feet away from the ground……

And how attached are you from your ROPE ????

TrueSpace 3 rocks

Everyone knows TrueSpace 3 is free. Recently after acquired by Microsoft, Caligari announced their TrueSpace 7.6 is completely free for every one. That’s a good news for many aspiring 3D artists and modelers.

I am using TrueSpace 3 at work. Recently I was in need of an icon for a time piece. Searching the stock photo sites didn’t bring up any satisfactory results. Then, suddenly I got the idea and tried to design a time piece in TrueSpace 3. Within 20 minutes, I got the perspective and angle and the object was ready. Wow that was cool, and the icon will be featured in Zoho CRM soon.

About designing color themes and how people perceive them…

One of the interesting subjects to discuss would be “Color Themes”. Take any software application (web or desktop or mobile), and you can find there is room for cosmetics. Most of the software could be made “theme”-able irrespective of whether it adds value or not. For certain genre, themes are a must and for others, it is not that important. But if given, it would add some value. CRM is one such product domain which requires theme-able interface. Coz more than half of immobile CRM users spend most of their time interacting with the product. But for sales people who are on the move, it may not be necessary because they concentrate more on the information and UI response rather than the cosmetics.

Users who spend a lot of time require some eye pleasing color themes so that they don’t feel bored at the end of the hour (who prefers looking at a dull gray or senseless drab colors for the whole day?). And for theme designers, it is one of the mandatory job to come up with a crowd-pleasing color theme.Creating a theme that is liked by most (not everyone) users is a little tough job. It requires iterations to arrive at a proper color. Some themes which is praised by many, gets bombed by some. Why does those “some” dont like the theme? There could be many reasons. But one of the reasons I guess is .. color deficiency. Because for users having color deficiency,the theme may not look good. They might perceive the real color as a dull color leading to dis-liking of the theme. I don’t have solid data to backup this idea, but going through the feedback mails we receive, I guess color deficiency could be one factor which determines the success of a color theme. Of course, color deficiency is not the only factor which determines the success, other factors like people’s own taste for colors & taste for designs play important roles too. Personal preference is very subjective.

Taking all these factors into consideration, coming up with a successful color theme requires good number of iterations and patience. If a user doesn’t like your color theme, find out why. Pick up some safe and sensible colors and build your theme.

Cover Letter Makeover
Dramatically improve the effectiveness of your resume cover letters with helpful tips from a career expert.
Since your cover letter is written by you and for the job that you want, it may seem natural spend a lot of time talking about you and your skills/qualifications.
Unfortunately, this often produces myopic (or "I-opic") cover letters...and poor results.
Remember that all employers listen to the same radio station: WII-FM. That stands for "What's In It For Me?"

To stand out from a stack of cover letters, yours must focus less on you and more on the results you can deliver.
If you do nothing else, try replacing the words "I", "me" and "my" with "you" wherever possible. This will put the emphasis back where it belongs -- on the employer and his/her problems.
Here's a before-and-after example of an actual cover letter. Note the number of times "I" and "my" appear:
"I am enclosing my resume for your review because I am very interested in obtaining a full-time position as an Investment Banking Analyst at Ace Financial.
"I am well qualified for this position. In addition to the strong quantitative and analytical skills I have developed as an undergraduate economics major and in my work experience, I have a proven ability to stay focused for long hours under pressure."
There are five instances of "I" and two of "my."
Now, here's that same cover letter, revised to focus more on the reader:
"I am applying for the position of Investment Banking Analyst where my combination of economics training and high-tech experience will add value to your operations. Please consider the following:
"You will gain from my strong financial background, which includes a recent bachelor's degree in economics, coupled with experience researching and trading securities as a successful investor (resulting in returns of 200%)."
Just one "I" and two "mys" -- a 57% reduction. With "you" and "your" thrown in twice for good measure.
Replacing "I" with "you" is an old advertising trick that's worked for decades. (Read any good advertisement and you'll always find "you" and "your" sprinkled liberally throughout.) And what's your cover letter? Essentially, it's an advertisement for your résumé...which is an advertisement for you.
So follow the rules of the world's most successful advertising copywriters. Focus on "you," the reader, to dramatically improve the effectiveness of your cover letters.
